1. Introduction

Tshiakani VTC ("we", "our", "the application") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you use our mobile application.

By using YowaGo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information Collected

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, phone number
  • Profile information: Profile photo (optional for passengers)
  • For drivers and riders: ID documents, driver's license, vehicle or motorcycle photo, registration card, driver photo (mandatory selfie), vehicle information (plate number, make, model, color)
  • Payment information: Chosen payment method (cash). Mobile payment methods will be added in a future version.

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

  • Location: Precise real-time position, background position during active rides, trip history
  • Usage data: Ride history, trip times and dates, destinations, ratings and reviews
  • Technical information: Unique device identifier, device type, operating system, performance data

3. Use of Your Information

We use your information to:

  1. Provide the service: Process your ride requests, connect passengers with drivers, enable real-time tracking, facilitate payments
  2. Improve the service: Analyze usage data, personalize the experience, develop new features
  3. Communication: Send notifications, contact you about your account, inform you of updates
  4. Security: Verify driver identity, prevent fraud, ensure user safety
  5. Legal compliance: Meet legal obligations, respond to requests from competent authorities

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following cases:

  • Drivers and passengers: To enable ride completion, we share limited information (names, positions) between the parties involved.
  • Service providers: With our partners who help us operate:
    • Supabase: Secure cloud hosting for your data storage
    • Google Maps: Mapping service for map display, route calculation and geolocation
    • OneSignal: Push notification service to send you real-time alerts (device identifier, notification tokens)
    • Payment services: Currently cash only. Mobile payment services (Orange Money, M-Pesa, Airtel Money) will be integrated in a future version.
  • Legal obligations: When required by law or court order.

5. Data Security

Protection of Your Data

Your data is securely stored on cloud servers with encryption in transit and at rest. We use SSL/TLS encryption for all communications. Passwords and verification codes are securely stored and never accessible in plain text.

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct your information
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Refuse certain uses of your data
  • Withdraw your consent at any time
  • Request data portability

7. Account Deletion

How to delete your account

You can delete your account directly from the app in Settings > Delete my account. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, unless we are legally required to retain it.

8. Location

Location Access

The app requires access to your location to function properly. We use your location to find available drivers nearby and enable real-time ride tracking. You can change location permissions in your device settings at any time.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. Upon account deletion, your data is deleted or anonymized within 30 days, unless a longer retention is legally required.

  • Account data: Retained for the entire duration of service use
  • Ride history: Retained for 12 months after the last ride
  • Location data: Retained only during the active ride
  • Payment data: Retained in accordance with applicable legal and tax obligations
  • Technical logs: Retained for a maximum of 6 months

10. Protection of Minors

YowaGo is not intended for persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor under 18, we will delete that information as soon as possible. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at vtctshiakani@gmail.com.

11. Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the date of the last modification.
